Maysara Pasaoglu is an architecture student. Pasaoglu explored a music centre and hotel project for their Final Major Project, which has been outlined below:
Kentish Town faces two contrasting spatial challenges, a growing demand among local youth, students, and remote workers for accessible and inspiring study environments, alongside a broader shortage of commercial hotel accommodation within the area. In response, the project proposes a dual-function building operated collaboratively by a day client — The Music Centre, and a night client — the Hotel Operator.
The architectural strategy is centred on the intelligent programming of time, creating a highly flexible shared envelope that allows public educational functions and private hospitality programmes to coexist seamlessly. Rather than relying on single-use spaces, the building adapts throughout the day, transitioning from community-focused learning environments to evening entertainment and accommodation facilities. Inspired by the precedent of the Sara Kulturhus Centre, the project is driven by a strong commitment to sustainable, low-carbon design through the use of an exposed cross-laminated timber (CLT) structural framework.
In addition to significantly reducing embodied carbon, the exposed timber establishes a warm biophilic atmosphere while enhancing the acoustic performance required for a high-level music venue. By day, the building operates as a welcoming public asset with a youth library and classrooms, while by night it transforms into a performance and hospitality destination, forming a dynamic 24-hour ecosystem where community services and commercial hospitality coexist harmoniously.
