Abigail Vaz is an architecture student. They developed a Final Major Project that questioned the functions of a nursery and games bar together. Below is the project brief.

The project aims to revitalise an unused industrial site at 18 Leighton Road, Kentish Town. It is currently home to storage facilities and small shed like buildings connected to the nearby railway infrastructure. The location offers a chance to bring together disconnected urban spaces and improve the relationship between public activity and the surrounding context. It is situated between residential streets, transport networks, and active public routes in a densely populated area. The goal of the design is to create a multifunctional, socially mindful structure that promotes accessibility, flexibility, and engagement all day long. By combining lively social areas with quieter, supportive settings, the project investigates how design may facilitate shared experiences within a small urban area. The concept introduces a more inclusive and ecologically sensitive approach to urban development while directly addressing Kentish Town’s current character, drawing inspiration from the region’s vibrant public culture, vibrant nightlife, and complex industrial past. The connection between openness and connection is an important aspect of the design. The building is intended to improve pedestrian flow through the area, enhance visual connection with the street, and create areas that promote community involvement and gathering.
