Lisa Schafer

Lisa Schafer is a well rounded designer, passionate about innovation and hands-on making. Always keen to learn about new materials and processes, exploration is the driving factor in her work, tackling a range of sectors from packaging to furniture. Currently focused on versatility in design, accessibility and inclusivity are important considerations to create products that work for everyone. It is also an element of design we are constantly improving.

Her Final Major Project, Baum, serves to be a customisable, modular cat tree, which the user can build to suit their space and needs. Designed to live in high rise apartments, this allows pets to embrace their natural instincts, with limited or no access to the outdoors. Considering limited space in this kind of housing, Baum works vertically. As well as serving to be a more visually interesting alternative to existing products, with a range of geometric platform sections, available in bespoke colours and finishes.

Baum uses height to it's advantage, encouraging natural behaviours such as climbing and exploration. With research finding that cats love changing environments, being easily able to adjust the track on the frame is a benefit. This can also allow for the cat and owner to be at eye level, strengthening the bond we have with our pets.
