Syntyche Ito-Koutonin

Syntyche Ito-Koutonin is a 3D design student whose practice explores the relationship between digital modelling and physical making. Working across laser-cut mountboard, cardboard construction, and 3D modelling software, her process combines precision with experimentation. She is interested in how simple materials can be transformed into complex forms through structure, layering, and spatial composition.

Ito-Koutonin's work often begins digitally, using 3D modelling to test scale, proportion, and geometry before translating ideas into physical outcomes through laser cutting and assembly. By moving between screen-based design and hands-on fabrication, she develops models that investigate form, balance, and the interaction between light and shadow. Using accessible materials such as mountboard and cardboard allows her to focus on construction techniques, detail, and adaptability within the making process. The precision of laser cutting contrasts with the tactile and sometimes unpredictable nature of assembling by hand, creating a dialogue between controlled production and material experimentation.

Ito-Koutonin's practice is driven by curiosity and an interest in architectural and sculptural forms. Through iterative prototyping and model making, she aims to develop visually engaging structures that communicate both technical skill and creative exploration.
