Rahma Mahmud

Rahma Mahmud is a London-based product designer looking to incorporate a fusion of culture and contemporary art into her designs. She is constantly searching for a deeper understanding of self-identity and story-telling in all of her creations. Mahmud loves incorporating parts of nostalgia and sentiment to enhance the narrative of her work and is passionate about creativity having a positive impact on different communities, as community holds such a strong significance to her.

Her Final Major Project The Nesting Table highlights the beauty of imperfection and craft as the patterns are hand drawn. Designed for individuals with eclectic taste the project is inspired by traditional low seating giving a nostalgic feel and sentimental value to the nesting tables through the linking of culturally traditional Middle Eastern concepts with contemporary design. The Nesting Table is created in steel with a powder coated finish for a modern take on traditional Middle Eastern Furniture. Steel is a 100% recyclable material, and excess material from the cut out steel will be recycled, making this product sustainable.

Both tables create a moiré pattern meaning the patterns change through different perspectives when combined and apart.
