Martha Lee de Zoysa

Martha Lee de Zoysa is a London based filmmaker who primarily explores surrealist topics and abstract visuals in her work. Her recent project “Simulacra” uses immersive sound and artistic visuals to demonstrate how the human brain reconstructs and deconstructs memories throughout a person’s life. The film questions on a larger scale whether one’s memory is a documentation of the past or an arguably false reconstruction of it.

Zoysa has created a range of short films, such as The Cowboy of Ravensbourne and “Perspective. Both of these examples explore very different genres, but they focus primarily on colour and texture, which she has developed further in her final project, Simulacra. Following her studies at Ravensbourne University London, Zoysa aims to complete a degree in film and then enter the industry, focusing on cinematography and photography.

SimulacraSimulacra explores ideas of memories and dreams in the form of filmmaking. The project utilises a surrealist soundscape combined with a three-way split screen visual.
PerspectivePerception is a short abstract film about the perspectives of the forest with each row representing a different animals perspective.
