Elle Velvet

Elle Velvet is a London based fashion student whose work explores identity, duality, and emotional storytelling through conceptual fashion design. Inspired by themes of softness and ferocity, her practice combines structured silhouettes, symbolism, and contrasting textures to create garments that communicate deeper emotional meaning.

Velvet's Final Major Project, “Velvet Ferocity”, investigates the balance between vulnerability and strength through a black and white visual language influenced by couture fashion, gothic symbolism, and contemporary visual culture. Through experimentation with corsetry, fabric manipulation, and styling, Velvet aims to create work that feels both visually striking and conceptually layered. She is particularly interested in fashion as a form of self expression and individuality, using design to explore emotion, atmosphere, and identity within contemporary fashion practice.

Elle Boateng, Fashion Textiles, I Feel Trapped Project, Image 1“I Feel Trapped” is Velvet's conceptual fashion project exploring themes of restriction, emotional pressure, and internal conflict through silhouette and structure. The project reflects the feeling of being mentally or emotionally confined, using fashion as a way to visually communicate emotions that are often difficult to express through words. Through fitted forms, restricted shapes, and contrasting textures, the design symbolises the tension between vulnerability and control.

Velvet designed and constructed a large decorative bow inspired by elements of the forest and the importance of protecting natural environments. The piece incorporates organic materials and earthy textures, including leaves, wood-like elements, and natural colours, symbolising the connection between fashion and nature.

The black-and-white colour palette symbolises opposing emotional states. Through symbolism, contrast, and structure, Velvet's garment is intended to encourage viewers to look beyond aesthetics and interpret the deeper emotional meaning behind the design.

Each look focuses on a different texture and fabric quality, allowing me to experiment with how materials can completely transform the mood, structure, and visual identity of a garment.
