Danna Arenas Lopez is an architecture student interested in design for local communities, natural materials, and spaces to enable people to gather and share. This is exemplified in their Final Major Project which sought to create a special place that brings together the calm feeling of a spa with the fun of a casino. Located in Kentish Town, the considerations of locals and visitors were deeply involved in the development of this project from daytime commuters to the area's nightlife. Their proposal differs from a typical casino and spa facility through its combination of the quiet and peaceful feeling of a spa with the excitement of a casino, allowing people to relax and have fun at the same time.
The building is separated into floors, each with their own unique atmosphere. There are areas where people can socialise, like the pool and bars on the ground floor and the community sauna. There are also areas, like special treatment rooms and a cold plunge, where people have privacy and access to space for retreat. The materials used, like marble and timber, are chosen to create a peaceful feeling, while stone and tinted glass tiles make it feel more like a casino. The aim is to ensure users have two completely unique experiences all in one place.
